Hi!

Welcome to my blog. I am Silje and I document my thoughts, ramblings and adventures in knitting, fibre arts, and all things crafty. Hope you have a nice stay!

Ghost Horses Sweater

Ghost Horses Sweater

Alright, it is finally time to complete this blog post! I tend to set up drafts of the stuff I want to write a little about and it stays lingering for months on end. Much like my knitting does.

The Ghost Horses sweater is yet another entertaining knit from Caitiln Hunter aka Boylandknitworks. I can’t seem to avoid knitting her patterns! This was teased on instagram for months before it was released and I was just waiting for it to come out. This was not one of those projects that lingered, oh no, it took about 3 weeks from cast on to cast off. I suspect it was because of a few different factors, not least that scrumptious yarn from Værbitt - a Norwegian yarn dyer based in Oslo.

Pattern: Ghost Horses
Designer: Caitlin Hunter
Yarn: Værbitt Venull Finslig
Colourway: Natur (MC), OOAK hand dyed (CC1)

Yarn crush

The yarn used for this project is Venull Finslig (85% lambswool/ 15% peltwool) by Værbitt. I picked up some of this lovely yarn in her shop on a day-trip with work to the capital. It was really nice to finally get to visit the shop and to be invited to sit, chat and have coffee with the ladies there. Made my day!

This yarn created such a soft, light and warm fabric. It made it's way onto my top 5 list immediately. I used about 300 g (1200 m) of yarn - 150 g (600 m) in each colour - and knit a size 3 with plenty of positive ease. Leaving me with about 50 g of each colour which is future colourwork gold and will knit up wonderfully with just about any 2 ply wool.

Pattern comments

Knit the whole thing after the instructions and if I were to knit this pattern again i would only make slight alteration to the arms. The lack of sleeve decreases made the cuff pretty loose and wide, and I like a more fitted 3/4 sleeve. That said it is not uncomfortable, I just think it ends up looking a but unintentional.

Neckline is great - first one I’ve not knitted too tight! And I got a comfortable fit over the bust and shoulders. For a circular top-down yoke it works pretty well for me, not giving too much fabric in front even if it does bunch up a bit at the arms when i put on a jacket (might also be because of the shorter loose sleeves riding up more easily).
