Hi!

Welcome to my blog. I am Silje and I document my thoughts, ramblings and adventures in knitting, fibre arts, and all things crafty. Hope you have a nice stay!

Fossveien Sweater

Fossveien Sweater

When this pattern started crowding my Instagram feed it was impossible to avoid. Like everyone I was looking to cast on a cable-colourwork combo and i wanted to give a new-to-me designer a go. I’d say that Inga Semmingsen fits the bill. She’s a new Oslo-based designer that have been publishing patterns since October 2019 and Fossveien sweater was the very first of what I hope to be many more!

Colourway: Rødgul (MC), Koksgrå (CC1) and Revtent (CC2)

Warm and fuzzy wool

I chose to knit mine up in a golden mustard colourway with accents in charcoal and variegated blues. Since this was my 2019 mid-winter knit project, completed at the beginning of january. I chose to make it with Hillesvåg Tinde Pelsull which is very warm and at the same time it’s light and airy. Keep in mind that it is a bit on the prickly side and I usually would not wear without a shirt under it.

Tinde has a very generous meterage for a worsted weight and I only used three 100 g hanks of the main colour to finish a relaxed fit size 3 (about 109 cm bust circumference) with full length sleeves. The contrasting colours are some leftover charcoal Sol from my Humulus pullover and a hand dyed blue Telespinn Pan from Garnsurr (sadly no longer in business). I would call this a DK/ worsted weight knit,.

That said, since I finished the Fossveien sweater it has been a favourite on those extra cold and windy days by the fjord where I live. Light yet toasty warm is ideal for winter walks by the sea.

The fit of the knit

I found the pattern to be very clear and easy to follow - and I don’t think I did any modifications to it. Unless you would count adding some length to the body as such. The fit of the knit is great. One of the better round yokes I’ve done so far! It sits comfortably around neck and shoulders, leaves plenty of ease for the bust and I ended it on my hip-bone which is my preferred length. I wholeheartedly would recommend this pattern, and am contemplating knitting up a second version in a cooler wool so I could wear it a little more often.
