Hi!

Welcome to my blog. I am Silje and I document my thoughts, ramblings and adventures in knitting, fibre arts, and all things crafty. Hope you have a nice stay!

Episode 3: First one, then the other

Episode 3: First one, then the other

The third installment of me chatting about knits and yarns is live! There was some technical difficulties had but I managed to get on with it - there is a weird shaking going on that hopefully won't be seizure inducing. Getting the grips of this podcast thing is a steep learning curve! In any case I hope you will enjoy watching :)

What I’m wearing

It is now autumn and the house get's cold - this long open cardigan has been a favourite since it came off the needles in 2015 even if I didn't actually wear it until about a year later. It started out too tight across the back for me. But luckily since I had our son in 2016 I dropped about 10 kg and presto; cardigan finally fit me. The pattern is Coat with a twist by Pickles and I absolutely love the fat braid detail on the back, the length and overall mohair squishiness (I must say, Pickles really was ahead on the curve for the current mohair trend).

On the needles

I have been exclusively knitting on two projects this past weeks. One for a gift, and one for me.

The Hansel Hap (Full) has been giving me a bit of grief as I was not happy with my colour choices and ripped back the lace section 3 times… so it feels most of my knitting done this period got deleted and all I have to show for my efforts is a woolly white blob. I've put the project aside hoping the mojo for it will return when I stumble across the perfect colours somewhere. Yarn-diet be damned, this is a gift-knit crisis!

On the bright side the Rocquaine is coming along nicely and I have finished the front panel and have already done a good chunk of the back. Loving the muted dappled colours of the Madelinetosh DK Fair Isle colourway.

Obsessions & Distractions

When I say I have exclusively been knitting on two projects that does not include swatching for future knits. As I've mentioned before I am an advocate for garment swatching, and I try the best as I can to follow my own advice as it has come from many a knit fit failure. It helps me calm down that "must cast on all the things” feeling that seems to come in waves, as well as it helps me decide if a particular garment is something I am willing to spend 40 + hours knitting. And, last but not least, to decide on the colours in colourwork designs.

I've been showing off the swatch for the Treysta pullover by Jennifer Steingass - a colourwork yoke design I'm itching to cast on when the moment is right. I've got gauge and I love my* colour choices (*totally stolen from Tukuwool, see episode 2 show notes).

Debating my colour choices on the swatch for Balmaha pullover by Kate Davies. I really want to cast this on using a stash of Sølje Pelsull by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk in a deep plum/ burgundy colourway but I am on the fence about the contrasting colours in my swatch and will likely keep searching and do another swatch later on.

Lastly I talk about wanting to make the Balloon Cardigan by Petiteknit. This would be a so-called product knit, but hopefully with some nice details and a beautiful colour combo to keep my interest throughout. It would be such a wearable garment!

That was about it i think! I'm really enjoying this podcasting thing and writing up notes on the blog, slowly improving even with the lights blowing out.

See you next time!
