Hi!

Welcome to my blog. I am Silje and I document my thoughts, ramblings and adventures in knitting, fibre arts, and all things crafty. Hope you have a nice stay!

Episode 11: The Unst cardigan - now also with buttons!

Trying to keep it short for this one as the previous episode went on a bit. Perhaps I am now overcorrecting? Who knows. 😅 In any case I’ve finally sewn on the buttons on my Unst cardigan! And it needs to be bragged about.

Yarns, patterns and people mentioned in this episode

What I’m wearing/ Bound off (Finished object)

“Unst” cardigan by Marie Wallin. Published in her book “Shetland”. Single pattern sold on Ravelry and Lovecraft.  This beast of a fair-isle sweater took me 3 years from start to finish. It had several long periods of hiatus and lingered in the finished pile for the longest time before I fastened some decent buttons to it.

I used 11 colourways of Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift as close to called for in pattern as they had in stock. I believe I only replaced 2 of them. I plan to write a bit more in depth about this project sometime in the near future too. Meanwhile you can check the few details I have on Rav for this project.

On the needles (work in progress)

My main work-in-progress this week was the “Lockdown Cardigan” by Theodora Goes Wild. A worsted weight, open front, short sleeve crochet cardigan which is great for stash-diving and using up some random yarns lingering. I’m doing mine in a collection of mainly alpaca mix yarns in blacks, blues and greens. I’ve zoomed through it and have only got the short sleeves, pockets and bottom edging to go! It is looking like a mangled mass of stitches at the moment but I have great hopes for wash and block. Get the pattern on Theodoras Etsy or Ravelry shops, whichever works best for you.

Still working on my “Foula Snood” by Donna Smith, a great fair-isle pattern which you can get on on Ravelry as a single pattern from the designers shop or in the 2018 Shetland Wool Week Annual. For my version I’ve used Fjord Fibres “Hytteliv (Cabin Life)” and Rauma FinullPT2 “Sauesvart - 410” and yellows “Lys strågul - 402” and “Sennepsgul - 4805”.
